Brecht / Weill songs from the berlin cabaret

With Adrienne Thomas vocals and Hayward Slater guitar

An intimate evening of songs from the famous collaboration between Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill....

Brilliant , witty, dramatic narratives in the style of the early Berlin Cabaret ; a low pitched vocal delivery sometimes spoken, sometimes sung to the characteristic jazz tango rhythms of the genre. The songs are peopled by a variety of characters from the underworld, whores, thieves, rogues and wronged women. With wit and humanity, they explore what it means to engage in the human struggle and fail..or sometimes triumph. Despite the context, the songs are also extremely moral, thought provoking and passionate in their exploration of survival in the face of poverty and injustice.
